Abstract
A field trial with 9 Striga [hermonthica]-tolerant and 2 susceptible sorghum strains was carried out in 1978 during kharif. Sorghum plants were harvested and analyzed for HCN content at 8 stages 5-40 days after emergence. Cv. SRN-4841 showed a comparatively high HCN concn. throughout the period but cv. Framida contained a high HCN level up to the tenth day only. The HCN content in cv. NJ-1523 was low at first but increased later, indicating the possibility that the haustoria may have been killed after entry
