Abstract
Analysis of root and shoot material, sampled at 5-day intervals from six high-yielding varieties, three local varieties, two hybrids and two fodder varieties, revealed that, although HCN contents varied with variety, there was a general tendency for contents to decrease with age. Local and fodder varieties with low contents of HCN in their shoots had relatively high contents in their roots. In general, shoots of hybrids contained more HCN than those of varieties. At 40 days, the fodder variety Pusa Chari 1 recorded the lowest HCN content in shoots (2.6 mg/100 g)
