Abstract
A spectrophotometric method was developed which could determine the contents of tannin and other polyphenolics in sorghum cv. by formation of the Prussian blue complex. With a rapid extraction procedure the polyphenol contents of grain could thus be compared within 20 min. The vanillin test gave inaccurate results and did not detect tannin in 20 cv. that had showed low tannin contents when determined by the spectrophotometric method. Some water-extractable phenolics were not extracted in 0.2 M NaCl, suggesting a method that could distinguish between tannins and non-tannin polyphenols
