Abstract

In laboratory trials, the feasibility of using a Technicon AutoAnalyzer II to automate the determination of NH4 conc. following semi-micro Kjeldahl digestion of plant tissues was investigated. Materials studied included milled rice, soyabean seed, wheat grain and leaves of maize, cotton, groundnut, rice, sorghum, soyabean and wheat. Results of the AutoAnalyzer determination were in good agreement with those from distillation-titration measurements. Advantages of the AutoAnalyzer method include speed, precision and reduction of labour requirement, and only a small aliquot of each digest is utilized
