Abstract
Heritability was studied for seven characters in crosses within and between sorghum and Sudan grass. The broad-sense heritability estimates were higher than the corresponding narrow-sense estimates and indicated that nearly a quarter of the total genetic variability was nonadditive. It was concluded that selection of single plants would be more effective for plant height, days to 50% flowering, number of tillers per plant and number of leaves per plant than for stem girth, dry-plant weight or green-plant weight.
