Abstract
This character in Sorghum bicolor is controlled by a single pair of alleles with sunred dominant over nonsunred. It is linked with plant colour (Pp) and stalk juiciness (Dd). Evidence was found that the gene controlling sunred also controls red seedling stem. The distinctive colour of sunred develops only in light and is present only for a short period while the test is changing from green to its mature colour.
