Abstract
In a trial in 1969-70, grain sorghum cv. Hazera 610 was desiccated with diquat (1-5 or 3 1 in 500 1 water/ha) at 4 stages of maturity corresponding to grain moisture contents (MC) of 50, 40, 30 and 20% and was harvested 1 week after each treatment. Un-sprayed controls were harvested at 15% MC. Grain yields were highest (3-3.2 t/ha) from plants treated at 20% MC, while germination was highest with seed from plants treated with 1.5 1/ha at 40-50% MC, with 3 1/ha at 50% MC or from the untreated controls. It was concluded that desiccants adversely affect germination when applied to seed with a low MC. FAS
