Abstract

Of 13 characters examined, only 1000-grain weight, panicle length and flowering date showed comparatively high heritability values. Values for genetic advance were low for most characters; 1000-grain weight showed the highest value. Grain yield was correlated positively with number of internodes, panicle width and peduncle diameter, and negatively with leaf length and fodder yield. Fodder yield was correlated positively with leaf and panicle widths, stem length and peduncle diameter, and negatively with number of internodes, panicle length, 1000-grain weight and peduncle length. Grain yield predictions based on panicle length and width and 1000-grain weight were positively correlated with actual grain yield.
