Abstract
Data are given on number of productive ratoons/ha, grain yield, stover yield, av. panicle length, number of grains/panicle, 100-grain wt., leaf angle, days to flowering and plant ht. for 7 grain sorghum cv. grown with 0, 100 or 200 kg N/ha, 50% applied at sowing and the other 50% side-dressed after 3 wk, and at plant populations of 120 000, 200 000 or 280 000/ha. With increase in plant population, there were decreases in panicle length and number of grains/panicle, and an increase in the number of productive ratoons. It was concluded that 100 kg N/ha was opt. for number of productive ratoons, grains/panicle and panicle length; number of days to flowering was reduced by 10 days with 100 kg N/ha compared with plots without N fertilizer
