Abstract
In 1919 Sir Edward Mellanby conclusiverly demostrated the existence of a dietary factor responsible for the mineralizaton of bone. McCollum and Steenbock carried out experiments showing the existence of a fat-soluble vitamin different from vitamin A that was responsible for mineralizing bone and the promotion of growth.
