Abstract

In experiments during the kharif of 1973 there was a linear increase in grain yield of direct-sown, irrigated bajra (Pennisetum typhoideum [= P. americanum]) as the number of days after sowing for which the crop was kept weed-free increased to 35. The most effective, economic weed control was obtained using atrazine at 0.5 kg/ha. Atrazine at 0.5 kg was also effective as a pre-sowing or pre-em. treatment in dryland bajra, but 2,4-D was less effective in both irrigated and dryland crops.
