Abstract
Considerable variation was observed in the oil content of grains of 1309 accessions from India, the USA, Japan and China. Indian accessions from Andhra Pradesh had the highest mean oil content (5.4-7.0%). Studies of the fatty acid composition of four accessions showed that GS26 and GS627, with high oil contents, had higher proportions of linoleic acid (86 and 89%, respectively) than the low-oil lines GS156 and GS245, which had 62 and 72% linoleic acid, respectively.
