Abstract
Testing of growth simulation models for calculating stages of development and for partitioning dry matter production into parts of the plant against data from six locations over several years concerning eight hybrids with both irrigated and dry cultivation showed that the models gave unbiased estimates of the differentiation of the growing point, date of 50% flowering, maturity, grain yield and harvest index (ratio of grain weight to total weight of the plant above ground). For most characters, precision was acceptable
