Abstract
Four interspecific hybrids and their derivatives were studied. Rhizome development appears to be a dominant character controlled by three additive gene pairs, of which one is present in both 2x and 4x types of S. halepense and the other two in S. almum. Only recessive alleles were present in S. sudanense, S. durra and S. vulgare
