Abstract
Analysis of data on forage traits from an unspecified number of Pennisetum typhoides [P. americanum] genotypes revealed that, with respect to genetic gain in green-forage yield, in dry matter and in crude protein content in (1) the first and second harvests of a double-harvest system and (2) a single harvest system, leaf traits (number, length and width) should be used in selecting genotypes with good first-harvest performance while number of days to harvest and stem circumference should be used when selecting genotypes with good second-harvest or single-harvest performance.
