Abstract
The F2 progeny of a cross between the autotetraploid Sorghum vulgare with S. halepense (2n=40) exhibited the following four types of ovary: (1) a two-styled ovary, (2) a two-styled ovary with one style bifurcated at the subterminal region, (3) a three-styled ovary and (4) an ovary with a trifurcated style at the origin and one style bifurcated again at the subterminal region. Of 100 spikelets studied, 20 had normal ovaries and the remaining 80 had one of the other three types.
