Abstract
The risks involved in growing grain maize in areas with short growing seasons, the sink-source relationships, methods of improving grain yields, and exploitation of the high DM yield potential of maize by production of silage in such environments are discussed. The potential for grain sorghum in Ontario and in dry areas of Alberta and Saskatchewan is considered
