Abstract

In trials in the kharif [summer monsoon] seasons in 1969-70 with 3 crops given 20-80 kg N/ha in addition to 20 kg P2O5 + 20 kg K2O/ha, maize showed grain yield response to the application of 40 kg N/ha in 1969 and no response to applied N in 1970. Application of 20 kg N/ha gave the highest grain yields in sorghum in both years. Grain yields of pearl millet were highest with 80 kg N/ha in 1969 and with 40 kg N/ha in 1970. Higher yields in sorghum and pearl millet were obtained with NPK drilled 10 cm deep in the furrow than when applied broadcast or drilled + foliar spray, while yields in maize were highest with drilling and drilling + foliar spray
