Abstract
During an eight-year investigation under dryland conditions on a red sandy soil of pH 6, NPK (67.2kg N, 44.4kg each of P and K/ha) application resulted in increased grain yield (12.3q/ha), but NP (67.2kg N/ha) gave similar grain yields (11.4 and 10.5q/ha respectively). It was profitable to apply only N, at 67.2kg/ha, since the further increase in financial return with NPK was small
