Abstract

Although Sclerospora graminicola zoospores could infect Pennisetum typhoides [P. americanum] plants through the root, coleoptile or whorl, symptoms were expressed earlier after whorl than after root infection. Roots were infected via the root hair or epiblema cells in the elongation zone. The infection process is described and the behaviour of zoospores in water, on cellophane, water agar and plastic replicas of the leaf surface is discussed in relation to its implication in axenic culture.
