Abstract

Parents, F_1's and F_2's of two sorghum-sudangrass hybrids (resistantXsusceptible), two sorghum-sorghum hybrids (resistantXresistant) and backcrosses of 605A×Sweet Sudan were grown and inoculated with leaf blight organism, Helminthosporium turcicum, at Nishinasuno field in 1973. Although climatic condition in 1973 was unsuitable fcr studying leaf blight reaction, inoculation was very successful by using the newly developed field inoculation method. All of the F_1's, F_2's and BCI were resistant to H. turcicum. No segregation was observed in F_2's of resistantXresistant. In F_2's of resistantXSusceptible, the segregation of resistant and susceptible plant fits to the expected ratio of 3 : 1 that assumes a dominant monogenic inheritance corresponding with the previous report (TARUMOTO and ISwa 1975). The data in BC2, however, does not fit to the expected ratio of 1 : 1. This is considered to be due to lack of field resistance in most plants of BC_2 population
