Abstract

Free and conjugated residues of 2,4-D and 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) resulting from post-em. and preharvest treatments of Panicum miliaceum were determined in seed, straw, and forage samples. Hydrolysable residues of 2,4-D in millet seed ranged from < 0.020 p.p.m. from post-em. to 0.29 p.p.m. from preharvest treatment; residues of 2,4-DCP in seed were < 0.020 p.p.m. from post-em. to 0.031 p.p.m. from preharvest treatment. Straw samples contained from 0.23-0.39 p.p.m. 2,4-D and 0.027-0.033 p.p.m. 2,4-DCP from post-em. treatment and from 13-26 p.p.m. 2,4-D and 0.24-0.40 p.p.m. 2,4-DCP from preharvest treatment. Only 15-19% of the 2,4-D and 2,4-DCP were recovered as free residues. 70-85% of the 2,4-D and 2,4-DCP residues dissipated from millet forage within 4 wk after post-em. treatment.
