Abstract
The recent developments in improving the yield potential of oilseeds, pulses and cotton have been briefly described in the paper. Many low-yield environments for cereals can prove to be high yield environments for oilseeds and pulses. Therefore, crop substitution initiated an considerations of both ecology and economics may provide considerable benefits to farmers in un irrigated areas.
