Abstract

A pot experiment with red, black and alluvial soils using ragi (Eleusine coracana) as a test crop was conducted with urea treated with sulphathiazol, neem oil, neem cake, mahua cake, coal tar extract and with lac coated urea and CDU. The urea was applied at 50 and 100 kg N/ha. The results of soil analysis at weekly intervals showed that the exchangeable NH4+ and NO3- decreased as crop growth advanced. N applied at 100 kg/ha gave the highest NH4+ and NO3- levels in the soil throughout the experiment. The maximum yield of ragi grain was recorded in the treatments which received urea treated with coal tar and mahua cake extracts
