Abstract

In pot trials, P. purpureum was allowed to establish for 3 or 5 weeks before cutting at 2-, 4- or 6-week intervals and was given annual applications of 0 or 227 kg/ac of a 15:15:15 NPK fertilizer. Cutting every 4 or 6 weeks gave higher DM yields than cutting every 2 weeks and cutting at 10 cm above ground gave higher yields than cutting at 2.5 cm. Application of NPK increased DM yield to 40.4 g/pot compared with 11.4 g/pot for the control given no NPK. CP content decreased with increase in the interval between cuts
