Abstract
In trials with wheat, barley, maize and bajra [Pennisetum typhoides = P. americanum] grown under rain-fed, semi-arid conditions, the effectiveness of 30 kg N/ha as urea applied either in a single dressing to the soil or in a 2 equal split dressings to the soil and as a foliar spray was similar in increasing grain yields of these crops. There were further significant increases in yields of barley with 60 kg N/ha applied in 2 split dressings, but not when applied in a single dressing. Application of 60 kg N/ha by either method markedly increased yields of bajra, but had no effect on yields of wheat and maize
