Abstract
The effects of 0, 40 or 80 kg N/ha, applied at sowing or in 2 or 3 split applications at sowing and 3 and/or 6 wk post-em. on yields of pearl millet cv. HB-3 were studied in 1973-6 at Parbhani. Both 40 and 80 kg N/ha increased grain yields compared with the control, with 80 kg/ha producing the higher yield increases. Highest yields were obtained with 80 kg N/ha applied as 40 kg N/ha at sowing followed by 2 applications of 20 kg N/ha each at 3 and 6 wk post-em. Functional analysis of the data indicated that the response was 27.11 kg grain/kg N and the rate for full exploitation of yield potential was 110.49 kg N/na
