Abstract

In trials in 1968-74, FYM at 18.5 t/ha was applied each yr either to bajra [Pennisetum americanum] grown on silty clay loam soil under rain-fed conditions in the kharif [monsoon] season or to the following crop of wheat grown with a pre-sowing irrigation in the rabi [winter] season, or in 2 equal split dressings to both crops. Bajra was given 75 kg N + 37.5 kg P2O5/ha and wheat 25 kg N + 25 kg P2O5, or both crops were given no fertilizer. FYM increased grain yields of both crops significantly from 1970-1 onwards, and the effects of FYM were significantly cumulative in nature. FYM increased yields of wheat with and without NP and of bajra only when given no fertilizers
