Abstract
In calcareous and non-calcareous red soils the dry-matter yield of finger millet on the 35th day after transplantation increased linearly with an increase in the P level up to 52 kg P/ha. Maximum grain and straw yields were recorded at 39 kg P/ha. P fertilization advanced the maturity of the crop by 1 week over the control and increased the percentage recovery of grains from ears. The P content in the plant increased, and the P content of grain was very high when compared with that of straw. The uptake of P on the 35th day after transplantation increased linearly with an increase in the P level up to 52 kg/ha. Maximum P uptake was recorded at 39 kg P/ha at the harvest stage
