Abstract

Seedling of 5 finger millet (Eleusine coracana [Eleusine indica]) cv. of different maturities were transplanted in sandy loam soil in Feb. (summer season) and July (monsoon season) and were given 0, 40, 80 or 120 kg N/ha in addition to a basal dressing of 30 kg P2O5/ha. Grain yields differed significantly between cv., N levels and seasons. The highest yields in the monsoon season were given by cv. Annapurna and Cauveri, and in the summer season by cv. Purna and IE 267. The yields of all cv. increased linearly with increase in N rate except in cv. Annapuma, which showed a yield response to rates up to 80 kg N/ha, which was also the optimum N rate for all cv. MSM
