Abstract
The F1 of a half-diallel cross of Pennisetum americanum differed significantly, in the six traits studied, from the 13 inbred parents, eight of which have a yellow endosperm. Specific combining ability was more important than general combining ability for all traits. The good general combiners were: PIB128 and Pb111B, for beta -carotene, total carotenoids, yield and grain hardness; PIB11-1, for grain hardness and weight and PIB128 for the latter also; and PIB197, for protein content
