Abstract

Yellow mutants were recovered from selfed progeny of the inbred line Tift23B following seed treatment with thermal neutrons and diethyl sulphate, and light-green mutants were recovered from selfed progeny of Tift13B following seed treatment with neutrons and ethyl methanesulphonate (EMS). The F2 and F3 segregation ratios for two crosses between the yellow and light-green mutants showed that each character is controlled by a single recessive gene, these being designated yn1 and lgn1 respectively. F2 studies over five years on crosses between the mutants and plants of Tift23B carrying the female sterile (fs) and trichomeless (tr) mutations established a linkage group involving yn1, lgn, and fs. The tr locus proved independent of yn1 and lgn1
