Abstract
Seeds of Pennisetum americanum were sown in pots filled with a 3:1 soil/manure mixture. Aq. sol. of 1000, 2500 or 5000 p.p.m. maleic hydrazide (MH) and 2500, 5000 or 10 000 p.p.m. CCC [chlormequat] or B-nine [daminozide] were applied as foliar spray at 25 ml/plant. All treatments resulted in increased tillering and leaf production, markedly reduced shoot elongation and delayed flowering by 1-12 days. Max. grain yield of 185.33 g/plant was recorded with 2500 p.p.m. MH, followed by 136.59 g/plant with 5000 p.p.m. CCC. Seed carbohydrate contents were increased by the treatments
