Abstract
In investigations on the control of Chilo partellus (Swinh.) with lindane on sorghum in Tamil Nadu, India, in 1980, damage was least when a granular formulation was applied 25 days after sowing. Whorl application at 0.37 kg a.i./ha on the 25th day followed by 0.45 kg/ha on the 35th day, or 0.45 kg/ha on the 25th day followed by 0.45 kg/ha on the 35th day, reduced the leaf injury, number of dead-hearts and percentage of tunnelling, and increased the yield. Lindane residues (in p.p.m.) were 0.40-0.77 in the grain and 0.65-1.04 in the straw, which was less than the tolerance limit of 3 p.p.m
