Abstract
Field-plot tests were carried out in several localities in central and southern Georgia, USA, in 1978-81 to evaluate the effectiveness of bait, granular and spray formulations of several insecticides for the control of larvae of Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) on whorl-stage grain sorghum. The results showed that spray formulations of methomyl (1.8L), permethrin (2)E and chlorpyrifos (4E) gave consistent control when applied over the row in a final volume of 140 litres/ha (for multiple applications) or 468 litres/ha (for single applications). Granular formulations of methomyl (5G) and chlorpyrifos (15G) were also effective when applied in a 13-cm band over the row. Control by the granules did not differ significantly from that given by the sprays. Other insecticides providing acceptable control included cypermethrin, acephate and thiodicarb
