Abstract

Two plants of Pennisetum typhoides with two extra chromosomes deficient for short segments in one of their arms were obtained among the progeny of a cross between a trisomic plant and a diploid. Studies of meiosis in these two plants showed that the extra chromosomes did not pair with any of the other chromosomes of the complement, but only paired among themselves or remained as univalents. In the cells with extra chromosomes the variation in chiasma frequency was higher than that in normal diploid plants. Meiotic abnormalities such as differential condensation of chromosomes, persistent nucleoli and cytomixis were observed
