Abstract
Field trials were carried out in Delhi, India, during the kharif (hot) seasons of 1977 and 1978 to examine the possibility of reducing the recommended application rates of granular systemic insecticides when used in spot treatments at sowing for control of the sorghum pest Atherigona soccata Rond., as compared with dosages used in treatment of whole rows. On the basis of seed germination, oviposition, number of dead-hearts and grain yield, it was established that the recommended dosage of granular carbofuran could be reduced from 3.0 to 1.5 or 2.0 g/m row. Spot application of disulfoton granules was relatively ineffective in preventing damage by the pest and also adversely affected germination; therefore this compound is not recommended for use against A. soccata
