Abstract

Cytochemical constituents of style, stigma, pollen and pollen tube are assessed in the live materials of Panicum miliaceum L. The cytochemical substances assessed are : Polysaccharides, lipids, Proteins, RNA and reducing sugars. Pre-pollinated stigma is rich in RNA and lipids. A gradual increase of the latter was noticed in it. The pollen and pollen tube are also rich not only in RNA and lipids, but also in polysaccharides and protiens. It is considered that pollen and pollen tube are nutritionally independent of the pistillar tissues
