Abstract

In a growth-chamber experiment, seedlings of Panicum virgatum cv. (a) Pathfinder and (b) Nebr. 28 and (c) an experimental line were grown for 10 weeks and sampled for growth analysis after 1-4, 6, 8 and 10 weeks. Stem and leaf-blade DM were significantly greater in (a) and (c) than in (b) and final leaf area/plant and leaf DM/plant were significantly greater in (c) than in (a) and (b). RGR, NAR and LAR were similar in all 3 cultivars and generally declined with each successive harvest. It was concluded that the late-maturing cultivars (a) and (c) were likely to compete better against weeds than the early-maturing cultivar (b)
