Abstract

In a laboratory experiment, sorghum cv. CSH-4, M 35-1, R-16, CSH-1, CS-3541 and R-148 were germinated in soil of bulk density 1.0, 1.1 or 1.2 g/cm3 at 30% m.c. and 30 deg C. Seedling emergence at 6 days was reduced by increasing soil bulk density in all cv., but the reduction was most severe in CSH-4. CSH-4 gave max. emergence of 97% at soil bulk density of 1.0 g/cm3 compared with a min. of 73% in R-16 and R-148 at that density
