Abstract

A lowland population of P. virgatum had a tetraploid chromosome number (2n = 36) while upland populations contained octoploids and aneuploid variants of octoploids. No genetic interaction between the races could be detected in sympatric populations. Morphological variation indicated that the upland race was more closely related to N. populations and the lowland race to S. populations
