Abstract
A number of disease resistant male sterile lines from diverse sources that are currently being used in the breeding programme were evaluated for their combining ability in relation to the existing highly disease susceptible male sterile line Tift 23A. Line × Tester analysis revealed that M.S. 628A was as good general combiner as the Tift 23A for grain yield, but the resultant hybrids with M.S. 628A were very tall and late in maturity and, therefore, not commercially desirable. None of the other m.s. lines were as good as Tift 23A.
