Abstract
Sorghum and millets provide the staple diet for peoples living in the savanna zones of West Africa. In Northern Nigeria, sorghum occupies 27 per cent all land devoted to arable crops but the average yield is only 600 lb. per acre. There is wide variation between Nigerian varieties but most types are characteristically tall, late maturing and low yielding, although they produce high quality of grains...................................................
