Abstract
Balance experiments with young rats in which the cereal to be tested comprised about 70 per cent. of the diet and supplied most of its Ca and P gave the following figures for percentage retention of Ca: ragi 68, cambu 89 and cholam 84, and for percentage retention of P: ragi 58, cambu 74, cholam 67 and rice 64. In the last three cereals the content of Ca was much lower than that of ragi and consequently the Ca: P ratios were much lower. When the amount of ragi used in the synthetic diet was reduced to 40 and 20 per cent. the percentage retentions of Ca were 88 and 84 and of P 79 and 70.-W. Godden.
