Abstract
Callus tissue cultures of 2 cvs. of Pennisetum americanum susceptible to Claviceps fusiformis showed differential growth inhibition on media containing ergot extract. Higher concs. of extract initially arrested growth but a few cells survived and resumed growth. The possibility of selecting potentially tolerant or resistant cell lines and the regeneration of plants from them is discussed.
