Abstract
A total of 250 S1 lines from selfing the composite YZC were studied in 1979 and 1980 for grain yield and 15 other characters including yield components. Coefficients of variation were lowest (3.8%) for days to 50% flowering and highest (37.7%) for peduncle length. Genotype X environment interaction variances were larger than genetic variances for every character. Grain yield per plot was genetically correlated positively with height, flag leaf length, number of spikes per head and number of heads per plot, and negatively with days to 50% flowering and peduncle length. Heritability estimates were low for all characters
