Abstract
In a 4 X 4 Latin square trial 8 Holstein-Friesian calves weaned at 6 weeks old were given diets (18-19% crude protein) based on sorghum meal, dehydrated citrus pulp meal and torula yeast for 14 days. In the 4 diets citrus pulp meal replaced 0, 50, 75 or 100% of the sorghum meal. Digestibility of DM was 75.4, 74.8, 76.1 and 79.1%, respectively. Daily N retention was 0.814, 0.908, 0.943 and 1.131 g/kg0.73; there was no significant difference among groups in N intake and N retention expressed as a percentage of N intake. Faecal N tended to be lowest in the diet with most citrus pulp. It is concluded that dehydrated citrus pulp meal seemed to be an adequate energy source, provided adequate protein is available
