Abstract

The authors review work on the effects of infestations by larvae of Ostrinia nubilalis (Hb.) on sorghum. Techniques for artificially infesting plants and making resistance ratings are described, and the consequences of infestations on grain yield and other agronomic traits are discussed. Reductions in yield and seed size caused by infestations are assessed in several types of sorghum populations. Recurrent selection as a procedure for increasing the resistance of populations to the borer is examined
