Abstract

A Severe outbreak of stem borer (Busseola fusca) hit cereals during the 1978 qrowinq season. Sorghum and maize were the worst hit . The severity of attack and extent of damage was unprecedented, atleast in the recent past, and a lot of quesbions are now being asked, among them: What led to the outbreak in 19787 Will, there be another in 1979? What can be done to forestall another in the future? This article attempts to provide answers to these and other quertionr related to the 1978 outbreak
