Abstract

The important millets consumed as a staple food by the low income groups of the people in different parts of India are ragi (Eleudne Coracona), kaffir corn (Sorghum Vulgare) and Pearl millet (Pennisetum typhoideum )'. Studies carried out by different workers have shown that poor Indian diets based on the above millets promote moderate growth in rats and are lacking in proteins, certain vitamins and minerals'.
